In a remarkable homecoming, renowned musician Mas Melody has returned to Goma after an extensive period of musical exploration in East Africa. With a career spanning 7-10 years in countries such as Kenya and Uganda, Mas Melody brings back a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to his hometown.
Reflecting on his time in East Africa, Mas Melody shares, “My experience in the music industry in Kenya and Uganda was a transformative journey. It was a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs, but it allowed me to tap into my talents and deepen my understanding of the music business.” Through this journey, Mas Melody honed his skills, embraced the challenges, and emerged as a seasoned musician ready to make his mark.
During his musical odyssey, Mas Melody’s time in East Africa had a profound influence on his artistry. He explains, “Being in East Africa exposed me to a vibrant music scene, events, and an environment that helped shape my personality and image. It was a valuable learning process that allowed me to develop my unique sound and discover my potential in everything I do.”
But what drew Mas Melody back to his roots in Goma? As he reminisces about his return, he reveals, “There were several compelling reasons that brought me back. Firstly, there were personal matters I needed to address. Secondly, a strong desire to reconnect with my family and test new plans and strategies fueled my return. Moreover, the pull of performing live concerts and embarking on a media tour in my hometown was irresistible. Most importantly, the unwavering support of my fans and fellow musicians played a significant role in my decision to come back to Goma.”
Looking ahead, Mas Melody shares his perspective on the future of the music industry in the Democratic Republic of Congo. With a hint of concern, he remarks, “The music industry in our country lacks the promise of development. Despite having an abundance of talented young individuals, we struggle to unearth and nurture their potential. It is a stark contrast to the thriving music scenes in other African countries. To bring about significant change, we need to focus on improving our industry’s structure and market. We have the talent; now we must create opportunities to showcase and sell that talent. By addressing these crucial aspects, we can regain the position that has been taken from us by countries like Nigeria.”
As Mas Melody gears up for his upcoming projects, he reveals, “Currently, I am working on my highly anticipated EP, set to delight fans with four captivating singles. While specific collaborations are still in the works, I remain open to partnering with other talented artists to create magic.”
Beyond his musical endeavors, Mas Melody aims to make a positive impact in his community and beyond. He affirms, “My music is a catalyst for positive change. I take pride in inspiring the next generation of musicians, as approximately 10% of upcoming artists in the industry follow in my footsteps. I guide them to stay focused on their music and steer clear of negative influences.”
